Beijing Wildlife Park
Beijing Wildlife Park is located in the Wanmu Forest, Daxing District, 40 km (25 miles) from downtown Beijing. The distance from the front to the back of the zoo is about 1,500 meters (1,635 yards); the perimeter is around 4,000 meters (4,360 yards). The zoo houses over 10 thousand animals of 200 species, of which 42 species are from other countries. Most of the animals are kept together without cages and there are also 32 theme venues. In the zoo you can take a shuttle bus to closely observe the animals and feed them. It is also a good place for children to interact with animals and learn more about them.
The visiting lines in Beijing Wildlife Park include a south and a north line, both of which lead to the cage-free area. The suggested route is entering via the main gate and visiting along the south line. After visiting all the zones in this line, you can take the shuttle bus to feed animals in the cage-free area and then visit along the north line. Finally exit through the gate at the end of the north line.
The south line is about l,000 meters (1,090 yards) long. Walking along it, you can visit the exhibition halls of the animals, such as lions, tigers, baboons and monkeys. The lions and baboons are kept together. You can observe their behavior inside the hall and amuse them.
The animals’ show zone in Beijing Wildlife Park is located at the end of the south line. The performances include bears’ acrobatics, monkeys riding, lions jumping through hoops, etc. Every show’s duration is half an hour. You are suggested to get the show information in advance. The performance timetable is 11:00, 13:30 and 14:30 on regular days and 11:00, 12:00, 13:30, 14:30 and 15:30 on holidays.
After enjoying the animals’ performances, you can enter the cage-free area in Beijing Wildlife Park where you need take the shuttle bus. You are allowed to feed and closely interact with the animals. There are carrots and meat provided for you on the bus to feed the bears, zebras, tigers and wolves, etc. Remember not to stretch out your hands of the bus window because of the danger. In this zone you can also see herds of wolves, lions and oxen living together, which brings a dynamic balance through controlling the number of animals.
At the end of the cage-free area is a mini cage-free area of Beijing Wildlife Park . You can rent a battery run car to visit this zone, with the cost of CNY 70 per half an hour. The animals in this area are not dangerous and you can feed herbivores like llamas and deer, and even interact with the animals. The feed is CNY 20 per barrel.
Passing through the mini cage-free area you will reach the north line, which mainly has birds’ halls. In this zone, you can see flamingos, peacocks and even talking parrots, which are very cute and interesting. There is also a Waterfowl Lake, with some swans, mandarin ducks and other birds. In this zone, you can enjoy wonderful performances by the birds. The performance timetable is 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00 on regular days and 11:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00 and 16:00 on holidays.
